The word of the year is "Community". We are currently working on fun ways to get our area businesses and community more involved in our school district. This year we have a new program called "Shire Mentors" that we are working on implementing at the Houlton Elementary School. The purpose of the program is for a local business to "adopt" a classroom and spend the school year building a relationship with them. This may include sharing a presentation about their business, reading to the class, providing a special snack around the holidays or whatever else the business is willing to help with. If we have enough interest, we will hopefully add this into Southside's classrooms as well. A HUGE Thank you to the businesses that have already signed up for the program! This means so much to us and is going to be such a positive thing for our students!

Please reach out to Katherine Currie if you know of a business that would like to join, Shire Mentors.
